Dosa is typical South Indian staple consisting of crepes made from fermented rice and lentils served with Sambar a is a lentil-based vegetable stew or chowder, cooked with dal and tamarind broth. 'Dosa' is listed on the World's 50 most Delicious Foods.

According to historians , Dosa is known to exist since the 5th century AD in the country. It is believed that the crepe was found initially in the Temple streets of Udipi, Karnataka and Dosa was already in use in the ancient Tamil country around 1000AD as it has been mentioned in Sangam Literature. A recipe for Dosa can be found in the 12th century Sanskrit Encyclopedia, Manasollasa which was compiled by Someshvara III, who once ruled Karnataka.
